Dean Campaign Continues to Take Shape as More Staff Added
Nashville, TN (March 1, 2011) – Nashville Mayor Karl Dean’s campaign has added two experienced political aides for his re-election effort.
“I am pleased to announce the addition of two capable professionals to an already highly-experienced campaign team,” said Dean. "We will continue to have an active campaign that engages voters from every part of Davidson County by focusing on our city's progress and its very bright future."
Toby Compton, who has transitioned over full-time from the mayor’s office, will serve as senior advisor. Toby has worked with Mayor Dean in an official role for the past 3-and-a-half years as legislative director. Prior to his service with Metro Government, Compton served as the senior advisor to the 2007 mayoral campaign. Toby has an extensive background in local and state races, having worked for Buck Dozier for Mayor in 2007, Jack Johnson for State Senate in 2006 and Lamar Alexander for U.S. Senate in 2002. He has also worked for The Ingram Group and the Associated General Contractors of Tennessee.
In addition to the transition of Compton, Derrick Tibbs has been hired to be political director. Tibbs joins the campaign after working for the past eight years at the Tennessee Department of Transportation, most recently as legislative liaison. Derrick worked as constituency outreach coordinator for Gov. Bredesen’s 2002 campaign, get out the vote coordinator for the Virginia Democratic Party coordinated campaign in 2001, and national director of mail operations for the Gore/Lieberman presidential campaign.
