Most raised in a single reporting period by any statewide Democrat in TN in a decade

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 6, 2017) — The Karl Dean for Governor campaign has quickly gained strong statewide support, raising over $1.2 million from more than 3,000 contributions in just four months. These are the totals for the campaign’s first financial reporting period, which ended on June 30.

As the former Mayor of Nashville, Dean is most well known in Middle Tennessee. However, his campaign’s broad outreach has garnered donations from 77 of the state’s 95 counties. Forty-three percent of contributions are from outside the city of Nashville.

“This marks the most raised in a single reporting period for any Democrat running statewide in Tennessee in a decade,” the campaign’s Finance Chairman Charles Robert Bone said. “Tennesseans are interested in progress, not partisan politics. Our state has benefited from two successful governors in a row who were former mayors, just like Karl. Our fundraising totals demonstrate that Karl’s executive experience and his common-sense approach are resonating with people across Tennessee.”

The swell of grassroots support for Dean’s campaign is evidenced through the number of donations made online. More than 2,400 Tennesseans have donated to the campaign online and 57 percent of online donations are $25 or less.

“In addition to fundraising, I have been spending much of my time traveling the state. I have visited 46 counties so far, including our state’s economically distressed counties,” Dean said. “Talking to voters, it’s clear they want to elect someone who knows how to get things done. My experience running the Metropolitan Government of Nashville is one of the things that distinguishes me from any other candidate in this race. I had to work in a nonpartisan way to accomplish things that moved our city forward, and that’s what I will do for Tennessee.”

As the only Democrat who has officially declared his candidacy for the 2018 governor’s race, Dean is focused on building a strong foundation for the general election with minimal spending to date. The financial disclosure that will be submitted to the Tennessee Registry of Election Finance mid month will show the campaign still has close to $1 million cash on hand.
