NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 10, 2018) — The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (BMWED) goes on record as endorsing Nashville’s former Mayor Karl Dean as the candidate for Governor of Tennessee.
Charlie Hogue, President of BMWED, said: “Karl Dean proved to be an exemplary political leader as Nashville’s Mayor. Not only did he manage to bring Nashville out of a distressing recession, but he also led the city through the devastating floods in 2010. Today, Nashville is prospering economically because of Karl Dean’s rational and sensible approach to leadership by focusing on jobs, education, and public safety.”
“Karl Dean has the same drive, commitment, and determination and is ready to offer his views and goals to all the citizens of Tennessee,” Hogue said. “Karl Dean’s political and personal experiences make him the one person that can bring opportunity to all Tennesseans.”
“I am honored to receive the support and endorsement of the BMWED members today. Alongside our BMWED members, we will work to improve our public schools – including opportunities for high quality vocational training; we will create access to healthcare, and bring jobs to every part of Tennessee,” said Karl Dean.
Dean’s gubernatorial campaign message about ensuring that every part of Tennessee thrives resonates with the Teamsters members and that is why they have step forward to endorse him. Dean decided to run for Governor of Tennessee because he wants all Tennesseans to have opportunities through education and jobs. He believes that a good job and a great education are not rural or urban issues, they are Tennessee issues and should be the standard so everyone has a chance to be successful.
“Beyond a doubt, Karl Dean is the man to represent Tennessee as Governor,” said Hogue. “With proud enthusiasm, the BMWED supports Karl Dean’s candidacy.”
